NOW: My life in a nutshell.

Updated:  October 02, 2023   (What’s a now page?)

Personal:

I’m attempting to get back into blogging.
It’s been 5 YEARS since I have posted anything on this blog. I have hired a contractor to help me get things whipped into shape (plenty of outdated plug ins, etc) and am working on a plan to get some posts going! You’ll see the site changing a little (or a lot) every day. This hasn’t moved much since I first updated it 6 months ago. This is a slow process!

I’m deepening my relationship with the Lord.
I’m being disciplined about spending quality time with the Lord, my bible, journal, and other materials each morning. I have been surprised at how 15 minutes can easily turn into 30 min to an hour. It is such a fulfilling thing to focus intently on the most important relationship one could possibly have with another.

  • Purity, Discipline, Growth
The Lord put this on my heart a few years ago. Purity of heart/mind, focusing on being more disciplined with my thoughts and actions (Disciplined people, engaged in disciplined thought, resulting in Disciplined action), and reading, listening to, or doing things to grow my knowledge.
  • Quiet your Heart. Obey. Listen to my voice.
The Lord put this on my heart at the end of 2022 and I am still figuring it out. Quiet your heart? How do you even do that? The process of trying has certainly been making an impact. Obey and Listen to my voice – I get it. I think.

This has been rocky! It is easy to get distracted by every small aspect of life – and sometimes big ones!

Fighting / Trying to heal from Crohn’s disease.
Things changed on Thanksgiving of 2019 when a trip to the bathroom became a horrifying experience. No one wants to see red when they “go”, and certainly not that much red. Several trips to the doc and testing resulted in a diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease. Finding a path to healing that I feel good about has been difficult. I have good and bad days, weeks, and even months. Still searching for the right solution. I have had a few good months now which is a blessing.

I am attempting to get “caught up” with projects around the house.
Being a visionary has it’s pros and cons. At home it can result in starting way too many projects and not finishing them. Then there is deferred maintenance. It’s a big house and while it is only about 10 years old or so, lots of things have been needing attention. Then of course everything I touch has to be perfected or improved so that makes things take a lot longer. But we are getting there!

I have unfortunately been introduced to the joys of anxiety.
A few months ago I woke up anxious. It got worse, and worse, and worse. One day in particular I felt like I couldn’t even function. Walking down a sidewalk I thought I needed to sit down. I worked through it and went from bad days to bad hours to bad moments to good days with bad hours, then moments, then mostly all good days. Then occasionally a bad day or bad hour or moment springs up. It’s a work in progress. I don’t like mysteries so I have been getting to the bottom of it.

Millwood Holdings / EscapeTheHOA:

I’m building a new company. (Now called Millwood Land Company)
In late 2020 I left CablesAndKits (I still own it), took a 6 month sabbatical, and then mashed the gas on a new idea to develop land, namely Estate Lots of 8-10 acres each. There are now 4 of us in that business and things are going well. It’s still early so we are focusing on “creating a sustainable business model”.  Check us out on Facebook – EscapeTheHOA

I am focused on Branding and Marketing.
One of our initiatives for 2023 is to solidify our brand and develop a marketing strategy. That involves interviewing branding companies, getting the work completed, and then working on and beginning to execute a marketing strategy. If you know any good branding companies, send them my way!

I am looking for a new land project
We have to buy land to sell it, and we are nearly out of inventory! I am diligently searching for the next project!

CablesAndKits:

Renovating our new CK building
Since the landlord at our previous location in Buford decided to raise our rent almost 100% at our upcoming lease renewal I decided to look for a building we could buy. We bought it on June 14th and moved in July. Now we are working on a renovation and build-out which will result in the ability to rent some of our space out. This has proven to me a monumental undertaking!
